Bita Farrahi’s statue to be revealed at Cinema Museum of Iran

A statue honoring the late Iranian actress Bita Farrahi is set to be unveiled during a special ceremony at the Cinema Museum of Iran on Wednesday.

The event will also feature a display of her personal belongings, including awards, documents, and cherished memorabilia, according to a report by ILNA.

Farrahi, widely acclaimed for her standout performance in Darioush Mehrjouee's iconic film ‘Hamoon’, passed away last November at the age of 65, due to complications related to lung and heart failure.

Born in Tehran in 1958, Farrahi nurtured her passion for acting by studying at the John Robert Powers Modeling and Acting School in the US.

After returning to Iran in 1980, she made her film debut in 1989 with a memorable role in ‘Hamoon’.

This opportunity arose through the recommendation of musician Nasser Cheshmazar, which brought her to the attention of director Mehrjouee, leading to her casting as Mahshid in the film.

Farrahi was particularly admired for her ability to bring depth to complex, independent female characters, often portraying women dealing with intricate familial and psychological struggles.

Her distinguished career includes performances in a number of significant films, including Ehsan Biglari's ‘My Brother Khosrow’, Alireza Raeesian's ‘Time of Love’, Ahmad-Reza Darvish's ‘Kimia’, Masoud Kimiaee's ‘Protest’, Rakhshan Banietemad's ‘Mainline’, and Rasoul Sadr-Ameli's ‘Waiting for a Miracle’.

Beyond her cinematic works, Farrahi also made notable contributions to Iranian television, appearing in several popular series, including ‘Spellbound’, ‘The Forgotten’ and ‘Irandokht’.
